7;47pm..........Ma is restless........understandably so. She is up again.........that chick is nearly hatched.........we are seeing lots of its body, but it isn't out of the shell yet.

This is the hole on the second egg.

7:49pm..........Good s'cap Marg.......shows lots of the body of that hatching chick.

Last of these: I'm trying to figure out what that pointed triangular bit was. :chin:

8:00pm......Surely that chick will be out of the shell tonight............the shell is just hanging by a thread I'm sure............Ma showed us the very active chick.............and she rolled it, making the shell fall apart even more. We can see the hole in the other egg too.............and I think maybe the beak of the second chick sticking out.

8:02pm...........One more good roll might do it.........that chick is so close to being free from the shell.
4.JPG
Could this be the beak of the other chick on the second egg?

8:09pm............Ma rolling the eggs again............sure looks like that chick was standing up as the shell moved backwards into Ma!

Karen, what do you think? Still not officially a hatch? It looked free to me but the shell seemed to settle back over it once everything stopped moving.

Thank you Sue! Your s'cap saved me a bit of work............now you should likely go to bed, and hopefully will sleep.......very late there for you.

I also just realized that the controls seem to be working well right now...........can't figure out why sometimes they are and mostly are not. Just hope this gets better.

8:39pm......No doubt about it.........that chick is out of the shell. We can see the mashed up shell at the left, chick in the middle and the unhatched egg at the right. Poor chick got rolled by Ma a couple of times.

8:51pm..........Much of the shell itself is broken into bits and smashed up now........still one larger chunk to the far side. And of course we have a second unhatched egg on the nest too.

9:00am...............At last she sleeps. But it will likely be a short nap as Ma will not rest completely with that chick underneath her and another on the way.

Larry, it is amazing indeed how well Ma and Pa do this every year............their timing is something to wonder at.............and the tireless efforts to bring forth new life are why we love them so much.
