8:23pm............Came back as something has been bothering me. We've had cams off for a couple of days and with the wind as of late and bad weather I am wondering if we missed something or not. :puzz:

Tonight I noticed this greenery in the nest........it looks fresh. I tried to check the rollback but it doesn't go back far enough and of course we have no archives anymore. I am wondering if someone brought this to the nest? I am wondering at what point this clump of greenery arrived? I've searched back on our s'caps but don't have anything recent to show the nest itself.

Another thought...........could this grassy like stuff be actually growing in the nest and not something that was brought here? With all this rain our grass outside is growing like crazy.

Jean, I posed that same question to Bev at the Harrison Mills nest bc, like here, the cams were down and when they came up, green clumps of moss were in the nest. She said she wasn’t sure but thought it was possible for it to grow. But it seems to me even if it did grow, it had to start from a fresh clump brought in fairly recently. We knew Dad and Lady had been to that nest but just didn’t know when their last visit had been bc of the cams being down. Here it is a little bit different since only Ma has only been seen I think over a 2 day period recently.

After looking back at your nest photo closely, it almost looks like grass growing up through the nest instead of moss
Here is a picture of the Berry College nest with grass growing in it for comparison. Definitely different type of grass though but it still could be moss. I’m certainly no grass/moss expert.

9:03pm........Thanks Marianne! I've seen things grow out of nests before, even flowers..........but I even when I enlarge this I can't tell for sure. :dunno: It isn't moss, it is grass.

Hi Jean, you got me curious so I went back to the YouTube tapes and pulled out some s’caps from 9/25 and 10/2 to compare. The 9/25 clips are in the left column of this s’cap and the 10/2 clips are on the right. You can just see the beginning of the growth on 9/25 so I don’t think this was something brought into the nest by an eagle but wondering if it has anything to do with Myles being in the nest. Maybe something brought up on his shoes or maybe even those new branches being placed there. There is some moss on the branches so maybe that transferred down to the nest.

Nice catch on that growth though Jean. I always forget to really look at the nest itself and maybe should start including s’caps of the nest while zooming so we have something to look back on.

This s’cap is from 9/17, the day Myles was in the nest. There is no growth at this time. Unfortunately there are only YT tapes for 9/17, 9/18, and then it skips to 9/24 & 9/25, so there’s no tapes for the week in between.

6:50 am - Good Morning Delta 2! I checked the rollback back to around 11:14 pm last night and there were no visitors on the nest. Since we think there may be two adults around I am going to log in early just in case we have a visit.

6:57 am - Not positive, but to me it looks like there is someone in the stick tree and maybe a 2nd someone up a little higher. I'm sure it's just my imagination. Will need the sun to come up more to be sure. Sunrise is around 7:16 am this morning.

Well that was not anyone in the stick tree this morning.

7:28 am - looking around at the poles and towers and this hawk showed up on the center tower. The wind is picking up quite a bit since I first logged into the cams.

7:33 am - one of the neighbors is on their tower and in fact down in the nest area.

7:37 am - and there is the flicker making his morning appearance and calling out so we know he's here.

This is where I've found him quite a few times

Almost forgot to zoom in on the nest....here is the grass that Jean had noticed yesterday. And it is grass and not moss.

7:41 am - the flicker flew off the one tree and went to the left and then it looked like there was another bird in the nearby tree that chased it but then landed on the evergreen that Ma normally perches on. I am pretty sure this is not the flicker because it looks bigger to me and it has some white on it's front, although I can't see the full front of them.

7:50 am - The hawk that was on the center tower is no longer there, and the 1st neighbor that was on their nest is gone as well.

7:54 am - Found this large bird on top of the tree to the right of Delta Port pole. Thought maybe it was a juvie but then when it flew off I thought the tail was kind of long. I'm going to upload a video on this in a little bit.

7:55 am - It was flying towards the Delta Port pole and I thought they were going to land there but instead they tried landing on the wires....oh no. They did fly off from here so I think they are okay but I ended up losing them as the cam was not reacting as fast as I was trying to make it move
