5:55 pm - and here we can see Trooper on the left, and Ma's tail on the right....she had moved over toward Trooper at this point but eventually moved back to the right
2020-02-13 20_59_34-Greenshot.jpg
6:00 pm - and from afar....I think we can actually see both of them here on the Old Nest tree branch

Glad to see Ma & Trooper together and close by the nest tree.

6:03 pm - I logged off the cam at this time. Everyone have a great night!

Good morning, everyone, and Happy Valentine's Day! Thanks for starting our day, nightowl!

7:30 am
From the dvr -

There was a very brief visit at 6:47 am; the adult appeared to fly up to the right at the end of the visit, perhaps into the branches.
20200214_008.jpg

I did not notice any other visits - but there were a couple of large gaps in the dvr, which I'll discuss in a minute. :)

7:49 am - Good Morning Delta 2! And good morning Judy! Thanks for the early report.....I think that may have been Ma checking in so early this morning. She may have flown off to the Delta Port pole...she likes to watch the sunrise from there, I think....

I am logging into the cam to take a look around. Sunrise seems to be so much earlier now.

7:54 am - we have an adult on the first pole....no one on the Delta Port pole, so guess I was wrong there. The wind is still blowing but the sun is out so that's a good thing.

7:58 am - an adult on this distant tower, left of the far right tower
2020-02-14 10_58_39-Greenshot.jpg
They flew off to the right and I lost them as they sped low by the far right tower....I thought they stopped but after reviewing the rollback they had kept going
2020-02-14 10_59_09-Greenshot.jpg
Panning to the right I did check the Tower eagles' tower and both were at home...

So I guess this is Ma still out on the First pole

8:03 am - Trooper flew off the nest....thought he may have gone to join Ma, but he didn't.....not on the port pole either, so now thinking he could have flown up into the front of the tree....hard to tell....can't see there with the W Cam.

8:15 am - to the right of the Tower eagles' area beyond that big grey building, I've seen an eagle here before....looks like a nest in that tree and maybe an eagle perched above it
2020-02-14 11_15_10-Greenshot.jpg
A little further to the right there are two adults perched in the distant tree
2020-02-14 11_17_37-Greenshot.jpg
Here is where that tree is as viewed from the nest area. I did not see anyone at the city pole or tree there so maybe this is that pair? It is close by.

8:49 am - looks like this may be an adult in this tree just to the right of the middle field tree...I thought I saw white on the head
2020-02-14 11_49_08-Greenshot.jpg
Both Tower eagles are still in the same place
2020-02-14 11_51_57-Greenshot.jpg
And this tree over to the right of the Tower eagles' area (almost to the city pole), now has three adults on it

Hi again! As some of you know, gemini and I have been doing an experiment. We know that YouTube knows how many viewers there are for each cam at a given time (though I don't know if they have a running tally or if they spot-check every so often) but you can see the count if you watch directly on YouTube, rather than on our Live Cams pages:
20200214_013.jpg

And we know that the dvr/rollback for all of our cams tends to have gaps, especially during the night. And I got to wondering if YouTube stops recording if there's no one watching. That seems counter-intuitive to me - I mean, the whole idea of dvr is so that you can go back and see what you missed. But it seemed like something we could test. And no, gemini and I have not stayed up 24/7 for the last week or two - but we have left cams streaming on our desktop when we went to bed, and it appears that if they continue to stream through the night, there are no gaps. You can read the daily reports on the Cams Down page starting here - viewtopic.php?f=66&t=33&start=1500#p280910

What I don't know - and may be harder to determine - is how long YouTube continues to record with no one watching (or how often it checks to see if anyone's watching - or however it does this). Last night the cam went to a spinning circle on my computer at 9:17 pm (the other three cams I had streaming continued to stream and didn't have gaps); Philjo checked in at 11 pm and 1:47 am. I haven't found exactly when the gaps were, but there was time missing from the dvr between 12:35 am and and 1:53 am (that was 1 hour on the dvr, 1 hour 20 minutes real time) and there was time missing between 1:53 am and 4:42 am (also an hour on the dvr, and about 3 hours real time). Knowing that Philjo checked in at 1:47 am, it will be interesting to see when the gap in that hour started - and I'll try to look into that after lunch.

For now - I know not everyone has internet plans that allow them to watch videos around the clock - but if we could have a couple more people keeping the cam streaming through the night, there would be less chance of a gap.

Thoughts?

8:58 am - there may actually be two adults in the city tree....seems like this tree is farther out than it appears so they look really small
2020-02-14 11_58_14-Greenshot.jpg

9:04 am - Looks like Trooper has moved over to be closer to Ma....Ma on the pole, Trooper on the tower
2020-02-14 12_05_12-Greenshot.jpg
The cam seems to be going off and on so I have brought the cam back to the nest and am now logged off.

Added - I looked back at the general area where I'd found gaps, and the cam jumped from 2:09 am to 3:05 am and then from 3:28 to 4:23 am. And I'm not sure what that proves - the dvr stopped at 2:09 am, which was less than a half hour after Philjo looked in. It started again at 3:05 am - and maybe someone who doesn't post looked in then - that would be 6 am on the East Coast, which is not an unreasonable time for people to take a quick look as they're getting ready for work. It went down again less than a half hour later and came back up at 4:23 am - and no one posted until I arrived around 7:30 am - but when I took the picture at 7:48 am to show the number of people watching, there were 4 other people with the cam streaming, according to YouTube - so maybe it was being watched starting at 4:23 am - that's 7:23 am on the east coast, and 5-6 hours later in much of Europe.

So my thought is that the more we can keep the cam streaming, the less gaps we'll have. I'm happy to keep Delta 2 West streaming when I go to bed, at least for a while longer - but I don't have the bandwidth to do both Delta cams (Ken is trying to get to Delta this week to check on Delta East - and he does know we're getting closer to eggs).

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks!

10:48 am: Good morningn/afternoon, everyone! I just went through rollback & there has been no activity since Sue's last post. I am going to log onto the W cam now.
It's a great event to get outside and enjoy nature. I find it very exciting no matter how many times I see bald eagles.

Ken is on his way to Delta!

He asked me to let everyone know that he will probably need to reboot everything, and that he may need to have the West cam offline for a while as part of the process of testing equipment and possibly replacing some equipment.

Keeping fingers crossed that we'll soon have both cams streaming!

He really didn't do much, but look over the area.

11:10 am: He went over towards the barn side of the nest & watched there for several minutes.
2020-02-14 (8).png
11:37 am: He walked over to the opposite side of the nest. Then he flew off about a minute late. He must have jumped up to a branch, because I heard him calling out for about 20 to 30 seconds.

I looked around for Ma & Trooper, but couldn't find them. This is what I found:

11:51 am: The Neighbors' Tower couple are celebrating Valentine's Day, cuddled together on the pole to the left of their tower.

11:55 am: Found a possible eagle in a tree to the distant right of the Eagle Tree by the Bay nest.

12:03 pm: I heard an eagle calling out. I looked around the nest, but couldn't find any. At 12:04, while still looking, I heard wings flapping. I found Trooper on the nest & it looks like he just brought in a long stick.
