Re: Saanichton Bay Eagles, Central Saanich BC - 2018/2019 Season

On June 19th my birding partner saw one eaglet sitting up in the nest, and an adult perched in the nest tree. The adult later flew off towards the ocean. On June 24th my birding partner saw an adult sittting on a branch by the nest with one eaglet. The adult flew off and came back with either a lump...

I drove by the nest area this afternoon and did not see any eaglets or adults in the area. There was one adult perched down the road near the dog park but I didn't take a photo of it; it was raining quite hard at the time.

Re: Pa Sidney- BC Bald Eagle Nest - Epicure- Pat Bay - 2018-2019 Season

I visited Pa's nest in the snag this afternoon. One eaglet was perched on the branch beside the nest; the other eaglet was jumping and flapping its big wings. Mom was perched in a tree across the road on the farmer's property and Pa was perched down the road on the First Nations reserve property. Pa...

Re: Willis Point Eagles, North Saanich, BC - 2018/2019 Season

On June 24th my birding partner saw one eaglet on edge of nest calling then layed down. No adults were seen or heard. I viewed the nest this afternoon from our original vantage point. The lone eaglet was sitting low in the nest with its head visible. It was calling to a parent perched in a nearby tr...

The lone eaglet at Witty's Lagoon was sitting up in the nest when I viewed the nest from Tower Point. It was clouding over and very windy at the time. One of the adults flew into the treed area but we couldn't find it. The eaglet in the nest is near the bottom of the photo a bit to the right from th...

Re: Beacon Hill Park Eagles, Victoria BC - 2018/2019 Season

Thoughts on the cause of death of the eaglets: given the number of rats we have it does seem logical that rat poison is the culprit. If so, could the adults have succumbed as well? You mention aspergillosis. In humans it usually occurs in people who are immunocompromised. Is this the same for birds...

Re: Beacon Hill Park Eagles, Victoria BC - 2018/2019 Season

Hi PGully/Paul if you look back to my post of June 3rd, you will see how big the eaglets were and how healthy they looked. It is very unlikely that siblicide would have occurred at that age. There have been many incidences recently of eagles ending up at rehab centers due to eating prey containing r...
