Re: Harrison Mills 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
5:56 pm Moved the cam back to a view of the river - and there's an adult at the top of the tall tree left of center again. I think their new nest is sort of down the hill from there, so this one is likely keeping watch, while perhaps also keeping an eye on their old nest, which might be a bit...

Lunch time here. I moved the South cam a bit closer so we can see them return to the nest, and will be watching on my iPad while I have lunch.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
It does occur to me that there will likely be another egg in a day or two, and they may want a bit of -- umm -- private time to work on that process. Added - just looked back, and the second egg was just under 3 days after the first one last year, so the most likely time this year is probably...

Thanks, skleynhans - great to have someone nearby watching them!skleynhans wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 9:06 amI took a quick peek out my back window. You won't see them as they are sitting on the very top of the south camera tree keeping watch on the nest.DZ7_1133.JPG

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
Thanks for confirmation of the switch, Ryan - thought it was Rey based on the eyes and the fact I didn't see the faded spots on the feathers that Brit is sporting these days. (It's my recollection that females tend to molt/replace some feathers while they are incubating/brooding - makes sense as the...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
Great closeup of the egg - thanks, North zoomer! 20240328_003.jpg 9:02 am I'm hearing calls but didn't see anyone in a quick look around. There are a lot of branches in the nest tree higher than the cam can look, so one or both of them could be up there. 20240328_004.jpg Let me know if anyone wants ...

Adult on duty (maybe Rey - will check back in a minute) stood up and looked around, then did a bit of calling and flew off.
I'm hearing calling nearby - will log in on South and take a look around.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
It looked as if something caught her attention - I have no idea if she could stop at that point even if she wanted to.
And she didn't - Rey arrived and she's showing him the egg.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
11:11 am Took a quick look back, and didn't see any activity since my last post. I just looked back on the thread from last year, and Brit laid her first egg at 4:22 pm. I have not a clue if eagles generally lay their eggs at the same time of day - but maybe. I'm going to be away from the computer f...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
9:19 am Adult on the nest moving a stick - I think this might be Dad Rey, and, if so, don't expect him to lay an egg, though he is a very amazing eagle. 20240327_002.jpg I went in to move the South cam closer, but he flew off before I logged in, so I am not in either cam, and will return to eating l...

It looks as if the rain may be letting up for a bit. I'm logging into the South cam briefly.

I am logged out of the cams.
I didn't see anyone in the upper branches, though they are good at hiding.
I'm away from the computer, but will be watching on my iPad while we have lunch.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
8 am Brit flew off to the right, in the general direction of the night perch. It's not unusual for a female close to egg laying to take an occasional flight away from the nest - so she might be back soon after stretching her wings a bit. I lost her behind the raindrops, and have moved the cam back t...
