Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
Shift change and we get to see the eaglet. The hatch is looking good; a tiny bit of way to go. :vid: https://youtu.be/36Cw2zyhqO0?feature=shared :vid: Thanks for the video, Gracie - and thanks for using the little green cam smiley to make it easy to see that it is a video! So amazing to watch! I ne...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
wow looks like yolk It does, doesn't it. I know that as part of the hatch process, the chick absorbs the yolk into its abdominal cavity, where it serves as food for the chick for the first 24-36 hours (which is why chicks don't normally need to eat right away, which is a good thing because they are...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
I have a 2-minute video from around noon showing the chick working away: :vid: Hatch in Progress (2 min) I'm going to send it to David and Myles to see if they have any comments on what we're seeing. This is not looking like most other hatches I've watched, but nature is amazingly adaptive, and I ha...

Re: WHITE ROCK 2023~2024 Observation & Discussion
Nice feeding for both chicks although the dive-bombing crows were a bit disruptive. They are very fast - mostly blurs in the 2nd and 3rd s'caps. I'm not sure, but it looked as if they might be swiping at the adult as they went by.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
Thanks for zooming, Sandy! A couple of pictures of the hatch in progress. 20240503_007.jpg 20240503_008.jpg My husband suggested that the flies might help the chick - and it occurs to me (only partly joking) that if I were that chick, I'd want to get out of that shell so I could snap at those flies!...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
Thanks, Sandy - logging out now.
I'll be back in a minute to add s'caps from my recent peek at the chick.
Added -
The chick was very active, pushing away at the shell.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
Brit was up to turn the egg at 10:29 am, and I got a couple of s'caps of the egg. 20240503_002.jpg 20240503_003.jpg Hard to be sure, but it looks to me as if the cracked area is getting larger. It also looks as if the shell is cracking and coming off the membrane, which isn't something I remember no...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
8:26 am I'm at the computer and can log into North if no one else is available - my reaction time is slower, but I'll try to zoom in if he gives us a look. Logging in on North And he was up and back down before I could bring the cam up, and there wasn't much to see - egg was positioned to hide much ...

Re: Report Cams Down and Forum Errors
8:08 am Boundary Bay cams are still down - I've sent an email to to Michael and Ken asking if there's any update. Stream for White Rock North is lagging (I thought it was frozen but am now seeing movement) and stream for Mission East is unavailable. I've sent a separate email to Michael and Ken abou...
