Re: Glacier Gardens Eagle Nest--Juneau, Alaska 2024

I saw a post on the Glacier Gardens Eagle Nest Cam page on Facebook ( link ) with the following statement from Glacier Gardens: We believe that with the recent issues that the camera may not have long left and are looking into options for a replacement. Steve is also on the lookout to see if there i...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion

Great pictures of the first feeding - tiny SR9 is right on track! I'm bringing forward this picture Ryan got of the chick tipping over because it gives you a good look at the chick's equivalent of a navel/belly button and umbilical cord. I've wondered if we're seeing a bit of the yolk through the sk...

I'm afraid the cams will be offline for a few days. The internet provider at the site is changing, and it will take time before we have all the information we need to connect to the cams again.

SATURDAY, MAY 4, 2024 :eag: Cam issue is still being worked on. Cameras still down @ 8:40pm 🙁 Unfortunately there are some technical issues at the site; folks are working on a way to resolve the problem, but I'm afraid it may take a few days. Keeping fingers crossed that it will be fixed soon.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion

8:07 am we can see the sweet SR9 doing a good job of holding up its head. And then opens its mouth. 2024-05-04_10-19-25.jpg2024-05-04_10-19-34.jpg2024-05-04_10-19-43.jpg Note; need to mention we in error began calling the chick SR10 but in fact the correct name at this point is SR9. I have changed ...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion

Good morning, everyone - and what a wonderful morning it is! :D I've just read back through the posts from last night - and (sorry for my quirky sense of humor) have to start by noting that I am very sure the chick is out of the shell now! 20240504_001.jpg And the eyes are wide open - though the chi...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion

Shift change and we get to see the eaglet. The hatch is looking good; a tiny bit of way to go. :vid: https://youtu.be/36Cw2zyhqO0?feature=shared :vid: Thanks for the video, Gracie - and thanks for using the little green cam smiley to make it easy to see that it is a video! So amazing to watch! I ne...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion

wow looks like yolk It does, doesn't it. I know that as part of the hatch process, the chick absorbs the yolk into its abdominal cavity, where it serves as food for the chick for the first 24-36 hours (which is why chicks don't normally need to eat right away, which is a good thing because they are...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion

I have a 2-minute video from around noon showing the chick working away: :vid: Hatch in Progress (2 min) I'm going to send it to David and Myles to see if they have any comments on what we're seeing. This is not looking like most other hatches I've watched, but nature is amazingly adaptive, and I ha...

Re: WHITE ROCK 2023~2024 Observation & Discussion

Nice feeding for both chicks although the dive-bombing crows were a bit disruptive. They are very fast - mostly blurs in the 2nd and 3rd s'caps. I'm not sure, but it looked as if they might be swiping at the adult as they went by.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion

Thanks for zooming, Sandy! A couple of pictures of the hatch in progress. 20240503_007.jpg 20240503_008.jpg My husband suggested that the flies might help the chick - and it occurs to me (only partly joking) that if I were that chick, I'd want to get out of that shell so I could snap at those flies!...

Thanks, Sandy - logging out now.

I'll be back in a minute to add s'caps from my recent peek at the chick.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion

Brit was up to turn the egg at 10:29 am, and I got a couple of s'caps of the egg. 20240503_002.jpg 20240503_003.jpg Hard to be sure, but it looks to me as if the cracked area is getting larger. It also looks as if the shell is cracking and coming off the membrane, which isn't something I remember no...
