Re: Browning Rd/Paul Beach Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast, BC - 2018/2019 season

I visited on Aug 12 and saw the eaglet perched on the favourite family tree at the entrance down to Jack Beach. S/he seemed to be holding a small Douglas fir branch and having a spot of bother holding onto it and the perch. I did wonder if it is was caught around her/his feet but as the eaglet flew ...

Re: Browning Rd/Paul Beach Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast, BC - 2018/2019 season

I visited the territory on Aug 8 and saw one adult down the beach in hunting mode. There were a couple of flybys and then s/he landed on the perch tree and as you can see there was quite breeze that morning. Next I headed down to the nest and saw the eaglet perched on top of the nest tree. So one su...

Re: Sargeant Bay Bald Eagles, Halfmoon Bay Sunshine Coast, BC 2018 & 2019

Thanks Sandra. I was there today and wasn't able to see any other nests but it was a bit grey and cloudy so I think I need to visit on a bright sunny day to have a proper look. I was there hoping to see some fledged eaglets but no eagle activity. :( In fact not much bird activity at all. The summer ...

Thanks Sandra. Yes it will be great to hear the latest from Angela. Hopefully she was able to make some progress with the Region. It would be wonderful if there was a way to stop it happening again. With so much development on the Coast this kind of thing could just keep happening more and more. :(

I can't think of anything else you could do but did you check with Angela? I think she's had lots of experience working with wildlife rules and regulations. She ...

Re: Field Rd Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast BC - 2018/2019 season

Sadly I haven't seen or heard any nesting activity for the last few weeks. Ma and Pa haven't been around very much during that period. They have stopped by occasionally but not enough to be caring for any eaglets. So I think I have to assume ... no eaglets this year :( Fingers crossed for a successf...

Hi Sandra, I'm glad that you saw the nest but is that the one above the B&B or is it another one? It looks a bit different - perhaps its from a different angle but it would be exciting if you had found a second nest :)

Re: Camp Olave Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast, BC - 2018/2019 season

I visited again on July 25 and the bad news is that their nest has collapsed again with no eaglets visible. But the good news is that I saw an adult come in with food and definitely heard at least 1 eaglet calling out from a branch above where the nest had been. So 1 eaglet definitely survived. :) I...

On July 1 I could just see 1 eaglet head in the nest with Ma and Pa perched nearby looking pretty relaxed

On July 14, the tide was high and I couldn't get down to the nest but I could see Ma and Pa off in the distance perched near the nest

A visit to the nest on July 22 showed 1 eaglet perched on a branch beside the nest. Yay!

And on July 25, Ma and Pa looking pretty relaxed further down the beach

Again on July 29, Ma and Pa looking relaxed on their favourite perch tree

On July 14, I saw both adults perched at the far end of their territory on a favourite tree. One adult did a flyby and showed some pretty tattered tail feathers, almost as if something had taken a bite out of his/her tail!

I visited again today, saw 1 adult and heard 1 eaglet but wasn't able to see where the eaglet was sitting. No pics uploaded yet but I will add some if any look interesting. Again the nest looked empty so there may only be 1 eaglet from this nest this year. I looked back over the pics on the thread a...

Re: Marsh Nest, Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast BC 2018/19

I visited on July 4 and saw an eaglet perched on a branch right by the nest at first snoozing but then preening. A couple of mins later an adult, I think Pa, flew in and made a food drop. I missed the actual drop but the eaglet jumped into the middle of the nest and was obviously tucking right into ...

And an early morning pic from June 1. Ma and Pa on the western edge of their territory I think watching the Ravens nest that is somewhere over in that direction. Or perhaps the neighbours chickens :)

I've been watching the nest and have seen no movement..... but I'll keep watching!

I haven't seen them ether Sandra. :(

I often used to see them from the Porpoise Bay pier when they were perched across the bay but haven't seen them for a while. Perhaps there's just been too much development around there - fingers crossed for next season when hopefully it will be a bit quieter

Then a juvenile arrived but was very quickly chased away by one of the adults. The juvenile was panting after the effort of the chase.

Then the juvenile tried to take a gosling from a Canada goose family on the other side of the bay. But no luck - Canada geese parents are very fierce!
