Re: Field Rd Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast BC - 2018/2019 season

And an early morning pic from June 1. Ma and Pa on the western edge of their territory I think watching the Ravens nest that is somewhere over in that direction. Or perhaps the neighbours chickens :)

I've been watching the nest and have seen no movement..... but I'll keep watching!

Re: Field Rd Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast BC - 2018/2019 season

Thanks Sandra! Usually something interesting happening here! :) I saw Ma and Pa several times during May. They were always just perched around the area either next to each other or separately . They ddn't seem particularly busy and I didn't see any feeding going on. I am wondering if perhaps there t...

Re: East Porpoise Bay Rd, Sechelt BC Eagles' Nest, by the Blue Heron sign, Sunshine Coast BC 2019

I haven't seen them ether Sandra. :(

I often used to see them from the Porpoise Bay pier when they were perched across the bay but haven't seen them for a while. Perhaps there's just been too much development around there - fingers crossed for next season when hopefully it will be a bit quieter

Re: Sargeant Bay Bald Eagles, Halfmoon Bay Sunshine Coast, BC 2018 & 2019

Then a juvenile arrived but was very quickly chased away by one of the adults. The juvenile was panting after the effort of the chase.

Then the juvenile tried to take a gosling from a Canada goose family on the other side of the bay. But no luck - Canada geese parents are very fierce!

Re: Sargeant Bay Bald Eagles, Halfmoon Bay Sunshine Coast, BC 2018 & 2019

On June 2, someone had tossed what looked like a halibut carcass onto the beach and there was a lot of eagle interest as you might imagine! 1 adult was right by the lower parking lot when I arrived and was soon joined by another adult that came from the direction of the known nest. One of them flew ...

I visited twice in April. On April 4 no adults were visible and no obvious activity in the nest though it was a pretty grey day so hard to see details.

On April 20, 1 adult was sitting near the nest but again a pretty grey day.

Re: Wilson Creek Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast, BC 2018 & 2019

On May 30 I had a rare sighting of the Wilson Creek pair. :) I was watching the Browning eagles and saw one adult high in a tree further along the beach. That adult, I think Ma, flew down to the rocks and was soon joined by the male. They sat on the rocks for quite some time, occasionally calling ou...

Re: Browning Rd/Paul Beach Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast, BC - 2018/2019 season

And then on June 3 I visited and saw 1 eaglet. Pa dropped off a meal and made a swift exit so the eaglet must now be able to self feed. And there's a chance that there were 2 eaglets as some of the body shapes just seemed a bit strange for one eaglet. Like so many nests on the Coast a large piece of...

Re: Browning Rd/Paul Beach Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast, BC - 2018/2019 season

Then the other adult, I think Pa, who had been perched out of site swooped down to the water and began to fish almost right in front of me - a beautiful sight indeed! He missed on the first swoop but came around again and managed to pick up a small fish. He tried some mid air acrobatics on the way b...

Re: Browning Rd/Paul Beach Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast, BC - 2018/2019 season

Thanks Sandra! Yes, all seems to be going well for this pair this year. :) I visited again on May 30 and there was nothing to see in the nest. One adult was sitting on top of the nest tree having a bit of a wash and brush up. It must be quite tricky getting to those feathers at the base of the tail!

Re: Marsh Nest, Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast BC 2018/19

On May 12 I walked down to the pier and saw one adult perched by a nest hole near the old eagle nest. Not sure if the hole was occupied but it certainly looks as though the adult had heard something inside. :)

This adult left shortly afterwards and flew back to the marsh

Lovely pictures of the goslings and ducklings Sandra. And of course the eagles ..... and the eaglet! :D I visited last weekend and I agree that there are definitely fewer ducklings and goslings. Our local Ravens were dive bombing one of the adults on Apr 26. We also had a visit from a couple of juveniles and one also got hassled by a Raven.

One adult, I think Ma, spent some time preening on a tree near the nest

Re: Field Rd Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast BC - 2018/2019 season

On April 22 I saw one adult carrying a grassy clump into the nest.....perhaps cleaning up after some youngsters? I do wonder about those dark tipped tail feathers - is this perhaps a new adult? A few days earlier I had seen an adult swoop down for some grass about 10 feet away from me. S/he had flow...

Re: Camp Olave Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast, BC - 2018/2019 season

Pa didn't stay long and very soon Pa flew off screeching very loudly, flying right over my head. Ma stayed on the nest and didn't look that impressed with Pa's efforts! I didn't see her feed herself or feed any youngsters with the crab. Pa immediately flew to a nearby tree and started surveying the ...

Re: Camp Olave Bald Eagles, Sunshine Coast, BC - 2018/2019 season

All was quiet at the nest so I turned to watch the gulls as they were feeding in the shallows. One gull caught a crab which another immediately tried to take away. Though it seemed in the end they decided to share it!

But this is just the setup for what happened next ....!
