Re: Marsh Nest, Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast BC - Seasons 2020-2024

Eating lunch at The Lighthouse Restaurant on Saturday, I could see an eagle fishing out over the water. Can't say it was one of ours, as there must be a lot of nests along the shores of the bay. Before heading home, I took a detour, turned around, so I was heading for the Marsh nest ahead of me. The...

Re: Marsh Nest, Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast BC - Seasons 2020-2024

I got back to this nest today. Sat watching duck behaviour in the water below the nest. Lots going on down there. Nothing at the nest was noticed. I did see an adult eagle flying out over Porpoise Bay a few times but no indication it was one of our Marsh adults. I also looked carefully for heron nes...

Re: Kinnikinnick Park Eagle nest, W Sechelt BC, on the Sunshine Coast, Seasons 2020-2024

I visited the nest yesterday, March 31, to find a white head in the nest. No sign of Pa until leaving, to find him perched on a tree at entrance area to the parking lot, kitty-corner from the treed side of the property, on what I assumed was private property. Both eagles were very quiet while I was ...

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast - Seasons 2020-2024

I got to the nest site yesterday, spent over half an hour there and the whole time there was a white head visible on the nest. No calling, no sign of the second eagle but definitely an adult caring for eggs or wee chicklets. It's amazing to watch people continuously walk under the nest, totally unaw...

Re: Mabel Rd/9th St nest on the Strait of Georgia, Sunshine Coast, Gibsons BC - Seasons 2020-2024

Gord has just shared that there is lots of eagle activity in the area, just not in the mitigation platform. I guess we have a nest to find!

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast - Seasons 2020-2024

I sent the 3 images of mating to David H. This is his reply: SANDRA & KAREN: -- GOOD STUFF. It looks like a female on the bottom = banded. I take the size and behaviour of birds to be the normal -- male on top, female below. If you were thinking the male previously had a band -- I would wonder if th...

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast - Seasons 2020-2024

I'm wondering if Pa's now senior age is preventing him from being as active in mating as he once was? Marvellous that you got his band in your photos Karen! Great discovery!

Re: Kinnikinnick Park Eagle nest, W Sechelt BC, on the Sunshine Coast, Seasons 2020-2024

Holly was up to Kinnikinnick yesterday, walking on the pink trail. She called a nest they saw a "very active nest", with a pair of eagles "carrying sticks and building, yakking away". They could be seen in the nest. Deserves a visit up there I think! :thumlft:

Re: Wakefield Nest near the Straight of Georgia, Sechelt BC, 2020-2024 Seasons

Holly has assured me that 4 "huge gorgeous birds have been circling and yakking away"! One couple have been rebuilding the nest. A couple of days ago "they were very talkative". Sounds very encouraging, as long as the 2 extra eagles fly away! Thank you for this Holly! Enjoy the nesting season with t...

The nest actually looks like it has been added to since I was there late February. Fingers crossed! :luck:
Thanks Karen!

Re: Larson Rd nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast - Seasons 2020-2024

Good for you for daring the drive down Larson Rd! And then the shock of not finding a nest in the nest tree! You're right, I recall as well the year there was a new female, at least that is what we thought, that they nested in the direction you suspect they are now nesting in. We never did find that...

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast - Seasons 2020-2024

Thank you Karen! There could be eggs, or perhaps not yet. On a warm sunny day like yesterday the eggs can tolerate sun keeping them warm for short periods of time. Pa of course always has to rearrange!
I wonder if Ma left to find something to eat?
