Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast 2018-19

A nice couple I met walking their dogs under the nest this month have told me they were there a couple of days about a week ago and as well as myself, did not nor hear see any sign of eagle activity.

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast 2018-19

Visits to the nest on the 16th and today did not reveal sights, sounds of any eagles. Having lunch with Angela last week, she shared that she first spotted the band on Pa's ankle 19 years ago! I guess the band can be forgiven for its numbers becoming difficult if not impossible to read anymore. I on...

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast 2018-19

On return to this nest site on Aug 11 I saw a juvie flying upward along the road runway they use, east and up the upside of the hill. Other than that no youngsters were seen nor heard. Pa did arrive at the nest, seemed to check it out, unless he made a food drop but there was no juvie commotion to i...

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast 2018-19

My visit here 3:30-4:30 yesterday revealed immediately an eaglet calling in the nest tree. Not visible with the naked eye but my photo of the nest area shows it lying down. While there an adult looking like a male cruised in down the runway of road from the east, landing in the tree top! Very hard t...

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast 2018-19

Awesome Karen, such great news! Literally there was no sign of eagles at all while I was down there recently. I wanted to get to the beach to check on the nest but knew it would be too much of an endeavour for me to even try. I'm so glad Pa is staying around late in the season as he has in past year...

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast 2018-19

I got down to the nest area again today, scoured the beach for eaglets. Not a sign of them anywhere for me. No calling, no beach combing, neither seen in trees. Very sad with this nest falling happening.

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast 2018-19

I'm back from our month away to find no sign of eagles nor eaglets. Not visually, not calling for food. From the front on approach it appears the nest is gone. From the back side the greenery has grown up preventing a visual of any possible nesting material, at least from where I was standing. I was...

Lovely shots Karen! This is the nest where I have found youngsters lingering on after parents have left the area through the years. Nice that you had a visit with him.

How about we visit together again to see if I can find it again? Then we could check our Coopers Green nest as well if you like. I'm hoping we can have our Fledgefest Lunch soon.

Thank you Karen!

Re: Mabel Rd/9th St nest on the Strait of Georgia, Sunshine Coast, Gibsons BC 2018-2019

Angela was also involved in trying to stop the felling. She has even offered to give the Region a map of our known nests. I contacted her as soon as I heard the tree clearing was planned. We can talk with her during our lunch in Aug to find out results of that idea. What occurred is illegal and I le...

Re: Mabel Rd/9th St nest on the Strait of Georgia, Sunshine Coast, Gibsons BC 2018-2019

I let Donna McMahon, Regional Director of the area know of how I had no luck finding the right person to call in time to stop it when trying to report the active tree felling to the Region. I also updated her as to the lack of an active nest since the felling, that the eagles may have abandoned thei...

Re: Sargeant Bay Bald Eagles, Halfmoon Bay Sunshine Coast, BC 2018 & 2019

I thought the nest I found could be in a bit of a different location, to our left of the other nest tree. I could not find a nest where I thought it should be then landed on this one through my lens and snapped. I have never found the other one but was recalling where it was when you showed me. I ca...

Yes, thanks for your update Heather. I'm going with the hope that the nest was destroyed by wingsercising activity by 2 fully grown eaglets and that both have fledged. :D Perhaps before they leave you will see them together. :luck:

Thank you Heather! It is satisfying to know we have a fledge at this nest. I was sure at the time that I saw movement of a second eaglet and you were suspicious as well. I hate to think we lost an eaglet but fear that may be the case. :(

Yes, thank you Heather for your marvellous reporting and photos. How wonderful to have followed this nest to a hopeful successful fledge of 2 eaglets. Condition of the trees of course remains a constant concern. If this couple could rebuild on top of a used nest rather than starting afresh each year...

Re: Stalashen Bald Eagle Nest, Sechelt, Sunshine Coast BC 2018-2019 Season

Hi Beth and welcome to our Stalashen nest! Once the eaglets have fledged and instinct takes over all our eagles fly north to feed on salmon. I'm sure some have already left and all are pretty much gone by mid August. They start returning to their territories and nests around the end of September. So...
