Re: Surrey Reserve 2019-2020 Observation and Discussion

How exciting to have our wee eaglet bobbing around. Hopefully all is well with it and with the second hatch!
Thank you for the great coverage of the hatching process.

Great timing with photos Karen! Wow! Some kind of interaction or hopefully just a case of 1 getting too close to the other. I wouldn't want the life of an eagle! ;) Thankfully it sounds like brooding continued.

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast 2019-2020

I suspect you caught one of our adults brooding, sitting high enough that eggs have likely hatched. Looks like Pa to me. A little early for this couple but we'll see when the youngsters fledge. Well done! I was doing a finger count yesterday thinking eggs should be hatching in the area. What a great...

Re: Wakefield Nest near the Straight of Georgia, Sechelt BC, 2020

It sounds like the month of March has been a disturbing time at this nest. On March 3 Holly noticed lots of aerial flying, very low swooping and eagle talk. She questioning if there might be a 3rd adult present. March 9 nest building was going on. March 17 she mentioned the "set to the other day, bi...

Thanks for this Marg. I never thought mating would continue after egg laying but it does make sense in case there is a loss of egg(s), more can be produced. :thumlft:

Nice timing Marg! Have they continued to incubate since your March 9 posting? Behaviour you witnessed seems a little odd 3 weeks later! I wonder what's going on.

Yes, the nest has always been difficult to find here. The tree is a lovely old Douglas Fir (?) that lost its top with nest and eaglet in 2017. They rebuilt in the same tree. I have such a long list of nests I want to visit and this is one, on a nice day as soon as I'm out of self quarantine with a n...

Re: Reservoir Rd Nest, Sechelt BC 2019-2020 SEASON!

Such a treat to find 2 parents at this nest! Looks to me like Ma in the nest, Pa the skittish one in his treetop. If you look at the heads, Ma's is nicely rounded on top with Pa's slicked back in what always reminds me of the Brylcreem look. Ma's beak is deeper.
Nice visit!

I just read this update Heather. Very interesting. You mentioned what could have been a territorial type dispute Jan 15. I will add another scenario in that another female may have taken over from Ma. According to David the male chooses the territory, the female chooses the nest and may not want to ...

Re: Chaster Beach Eagle Nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast 2019-2020

Years ago I witnessed a crow dive bombing a perched Pa Stalashen close enough to move feathers on the side of his body. Your crow was a bit more cautious attacking his back. Pa couldn't really fight back quickly enough to retaliate. Pa Stalashen waited for his moment and after many dive bombs flew u...

I'm glad Barrie came out to speak with you. Our wildlife friend Jack knows him and told me his name. I also have his phone number if we need it. Good that he has seen some activity but the nest really doesn't look much different than in my last photo. Interesting the merlins were around. Good catch!...

Wakefield Nest near the Straight of Georgia, Sechelt BC, 2020

This nest was built in 2014 by an eagle couple who had nested in a nearby tree for years. The nest tree sits on private property almost at the corner of Wakefield Rd. and Hwy 1 going west out of Sechelt. Upside on the NW corner. It can be seen from my friend's property on Wakefield Rd, especially he...

Well, we were hoping for Pa in the perch tree. This one looks to be the same age as the one you spotted at Chaster but the head markings look different. Going on 5 or 6? My guess is turning 6 years soon. Would love to see the tail as well. If Pa is missing here and this one is taking over I don't kn...

Lovely shots and a great catch Karen. Looking old enough to possibly be starting to have a few of those mating hormones happening?
I may as well add pics I took of the nest last week, Jan 29. Looks like they've been adding to what was left last season.

Re: Mabel Rd/9th St nest on the Strait of Georgia, Sunshine Coast, Gibsons BC 2019-2020

I got back to our former nesting site Jan 29. I say former because the nest does not look improved since my last photo and a friend who can see it from her home says they hardly see eagle activity anymore. They were perched in a tree fairly close to the nest tree but I doubt they are using it. As we...

Re: Larson Rd nest on the Strait of Georgia, Gibsons BC on the Sunshine Coast 2019-2020

After being housebound by many rainy days this past month I got down to our nest on Jan 29. I was hoping to see our Pa perched in his tree beside the nest tree but he wasn't there. A male eagle had fallen heavily to the ground fairly nearby recently but flew off before he could be examined. Of cours...
