Re: HALIFAX OSPREY NEST ... 2019

I'm guesstimating on the time, since I caught this on rewind:

10:00 a.m.: Changing of the guard. The parent who flew off brought a clump of seaweed or wet grass (?) to the nest.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion

Hi, Judy! Thanks for clarifying that it's Dad with the runny eye. That helps me tell him apart from Mom. 11:26 a.m.: Mom arrives with a small, black bird. A starling, perhaps? Or maybe a crow chick? 11:27 a.m.: Then Dad arrives, leaving behind two small chicks he delivered as prey, and takes off aga...

10:38 a.m.: Not sure which parent is on the nest with Dee and Ess. Both eaglets are resting.
10:41-10:42 a.m.: One of the eaglets (Dee, I think) gets up to do a poo shoot and preen.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion

11:52-11:59 a.m.: Parent flies in with prey, something feathered. Dee approaches first and gets lots of bites. Then Ess does a poo shoot and comes over. I think some feathers got consumed by both eaglets during this meal, since the prey was not defeathered prior to being delivered to the nest, and ...

7:29 a.m.: Eaglet leans over and nibbles on the wing of its sleeping sibling.

Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion

12:20 pm Sur just landed - and he's preparing the little chick to serve to Dee and Ess. I have very mixed feelings - I can't think of any way the tiny one could have survived there, and the end was fast - but SC was a feisty tiny chick. :brknhrt: Fly free, tiny one - and may your strength and coura...

5:33 p.m.: Oscar was incubating the egg, and Ethel flew in. Oscar briefly flew off, then flew back in and mated with Ethel before flying off again. Ethel did some aerating and fussing with the nest bowl, then settled down over the egg. No egg roll that I could see.
